Good Reads: Spin by Catherine McKenzie

Goodreads Synopsis:
Kate's To-Do List:

1. Go to rehab
2. Befriend/spy on "It Girl"
3. Write killer expose
4. Land dream job

Piece of cake!

When Kate Sandford lands an interview at her favorite music magazine, The Line, it's the chance of a lifetime. So Kate goes out to celebrate—and shows up still drunk to the interview the next morning. It's no surprise that she doesn't get the job, but her performance has convinced the editors that she'd be perfect for an undercover assignment for their gossip rag. All Kate has to do is follow "It Girl" Amber Sheppard into rehab. If she can get the inside scoop—and complete the thirty-day program—they'll reconsider her for the position at The Line. Kate takes the assignment, but when real friendships start to develop, she has to decide if what she has to gain is worth the price she'll have to pay.
My thoughts:

This the second Catherine McKenzie book I've read and loved. She has a fresh take on chick lit and unqiue and new plots. When I read the plot for Spin, it was so outrageous I knew I had to read it. It played right into my interest of glitz and glam and celebs. Katie is a really interesting character and is really a hot mess at the beginning of the book. She's turning 30, but moonlighting as a 25-year-old grad student for the bar scene. Kate had no self awareness at the beginning of the book and we see her slowly start to pull herself together and want to become a better person by the end. It was interesting to read the development of Kate's realization of her addiction. The secondary characters were well developed. I think a lot of times supporting characters don't get the attention they need, but that's not the case in Catherine McKenzie's books. I enjoyed getting to know the crazy cast of characters in rehab and the people in Kate's everyday life. There were so many heartfelt moments that really sets this book apart from other chick lit. This is was easy-to-read, well written fiction that you have to get your hands on! I read the majority of it in one night. You may also want to check out Arranged. I loved that one too!
