Fashion Upgrades for Your 30s

Your 30s are not your 20s and that should be celebrated! It’s a great time of life to edit, refine, and upgrade your wardrobe. Our bodies and minds have matured and so should our clothing choices.

Edit your jewelry collection. Keep items of value (monetary or sentimental). Get rid of any tarnished, discolored pieces, costume jewelry, and jewelry made of plastic and non precious metals.

Upgrade your camisoles. Get rid of those six dollar cotton camis and upgrade your under layers with a silky, sleek camisole.

Start embracing midi lengths. Midi skirts or dresses are mutli-function, multi-occasion pieces and should be a staple in the wardrobe of a 30-something. Leave shorter hems for more specific occasions.

Skip graphic tees. Graphic shirts can read young and sloppy. Going clean and solid makes you look more refined!

Cya bodycon! Bodycon dresses are notorious for being tight and hug in all areas. A a tailored, flattering cocktail dress hugs in all the right areas. Sophisticated, elegant cocktail dresses are perfect for semi-formal occasions including holiday parties and weddings.

Swap low-rise jeans for a mid-rise or high-rise cut. As we mature our bodies do too. Mid and high-rise jeans tend to be more flattering on all body types! Boyfriend jeans are still a go, but skip overly washed jeans as they read young.

purchase

Skip trends. Stick to things you truly like and don't buy something because it's 'on trend.' Build a versatile wardrobe then add in your personal style. If there's still room (or budget) then add in trendy pieces.

Invest in outerwear. You will unlikely 'grow out of' items such as coats, shoes, and bags. Because of that, it's okay to spend more on them as long as you're willing to take care of them properly.

What I'm Loving Right Now

I'm obsessed with all things Aerie right now. I always thought it was a store for the younger set (say like 21 and under), but they have some really great stuff for women of all ages. My gateway drug was their undies. Most comfortable undergarments ever. In the last several months I've purchased the Aerie OFFLINE Thumbs Up T-ShirtAerie Real Free Padded Scoop BraletteAerie OFFLINE OTT Fleece Hoodie and Aerie Softest Sleep Plush Foldover Jogger. I have two Thumbs Up T-Shirts that I wear to bed. They are buttery soft and can be worn for workouts, lounging, or sleeping, and I have three pairs of the Foldover Jogger that I rotate through (also worn as pajamas). I love the Padded Scoop Bralette for hanging out around the house. It's super comfortable and breathable and I like that it has padded. I don't do bras without padding (just a personal choice). The OTT fleece is so soft and so warm. It's going to be perfect for the cold days that are coming.

TELETIES Hair Ties are my new favorite! They don't tangle in my hair or pull when I take them out. My hair is long (down my back long) and I can secure a bun with one large Teletie. I use the small size for ponytails or half up styles. Check out the website! There are so many cute colors and designs available!

Speaking of hair, I'm loving Monat Volumizing Revive Shampoo followed by Monat Advanced Hydrating Conditioner. It makes my hair so freakin' soft and (most importantly) super manageable. My hair tangles and knots like crazy and these products have really helped. The Unkot Detangler is on it's way to me and I can't wait to add it in for even more manageability! Monat has a product for every concern and every hair type. They also offer skin care and have wellness line. There's a lot to sift through on their website; if you have any questions feel free to reach out to me!

Thrive Causemetics' Bright Balance 3-in-1 Cleanser is my go to face wash right now. It also removes waterproof makeup which saves me time! It leaves my skin feeling incredibly soft and it has a really pleasant, very light citrus scent. This is another company that I buy multiple products from. Love it's mission and love it's makeup!

Fall Wardrobe Essentials

Creating a Fall wardrobe can be easy. Work on procuring a collection of clothing that is composed of interchangeable items to maximize the number of outfits that can be created. Include pieces that can multitask! Know which pieces to invest in and shop second hand for trendier pieces. Don't be afraid to add color and texture!

CAMEL WRAP OVERCOAT

A camel wrap coat is prefect piece of outwear that can be worn over work and evening wear, but can also be used to dress up jeans and a sweater. It's a classic piece that can transition into Winter.

As seen on Victoria Beckham, Priyanka Chopra, and Katie Holmes.

ANIMAL PRINT
An animal print blouse offers the perfect color palette for Fall while still adding a pop. Dress it up or dress it down!

As seen on Rosie Huntington-Whitely, Miranda Kerr, and Lauren Conrad.

BIKER JACKETS

Biker jackets are the perfect jacket for to keep away the Autumn chill without adding bulk. Choose from genuine leather, faux leather, or vegan leather.

As seen on Karlie Kloss and Cressida Bonas.

DENIM

You can never have enough denim! Choose a skinny jean for a higher level of sophistication. They're also super easy to tuck into boots!

As seen on Reese Witherspoon and Jessica Biel.

OVER-SIZED/CHUNKY SWEATER

There is nothing better than an over-sized sweater on a crisp Autumn day! It keeps you warm, makes you feel comfortable, and you can create some awesome outfits!

As seen on Gigi Hadid, Emma Watson, and Kiera Knightly.

FASHION SNEAKERS

Fashion sneakers are a new staple for the Fall wardrobe. Think slip on, lace up, colors, high top and/or patterned sneakers that would pair well with jeans or trousers rolled at the cuff. These aren't your gym shoes. Search out a pair that you wouldn't run or work out in.

As seen on Chloe Grace Moretz, Meghan Markle, and Cara Delevingne.

PLAID BUTTON DOWN

There is so much you can do with a plaid button down shirt besides wearing it with jeans. Mix it with a leather skirt and ankles booties or make your favorite slip dress more casual by tying it around your waist and throwing on moto boots. Wear it under a sweater for an elevated, preppy look.

As seen on Beyonce, Dakota Johnson, and Jessica Alba.

ANKLE BOOTIES

Ankle boots are the most versatile Fall footwear. Thanks to their flattering style and practical length, booties are a style staple that can suit many looks. They are a great option to wear with jeans, pants, dresses, and jumpsuits. You can choose from flats, wedges, feels, and open-toed!

As seen on Selena Gomez, Anne Hathaway, and Amy Adams.

ACCESSORIES

Try some new accessories this year. Go for fingerless gloves, gold hoop earrings, and a top knotted headband.

As seen on Emmy Rossum, Jessica Alba, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

LAYERING BASICS

Put versatile pieces like t-shirts and turtlenecks to work when layering. When layering, stick with one or two color families, but go for a mix of fabric textures. Button-up tops worn over a t-shirt and under  a chunky sweater is a classic Fall look that will keep you cozy on the coldest days! But don't count out basics on their own.  They make for a casual look that offers endless ways of accessorizing!

As seen on Emma Roberts, Kendall Jenner, and Emily Ratajkowski.

Summer Trend: Tropical Prints

The best way to ease tropical prints into your summer wardrobe is with accessories! Add a pop of tropical to any outfit with a printed clutch, bag, shoes, or hair accessories!
Tropical prints can be worked in to wedding guest attire, day wear, or casual evening wear. Choose feminine touches such a chiffon, pleats, ruffles, and fabrics that flow!
The best way to a tropical print in to your casual every day wear is to choose a more muted palette. Skip the bright prints and go for patterns with earth tones.
