What You Need to Know About Men's Health

Yes, A Cute Angle is a women's lifestyle blog, but most women have a special man in her life whether it's a partner, father, son, brother, or best friend. And most of the men in our lives underutilized health care. So, here's what you need to know to keep your favorite guy healthy.

Testosterone can actually weaken a man's immune system, and studies have shown that once men get sick it takes them longer to get over it than women. Encourage him to wash his hands (as men are less likely than women to do so) to stop the spread of disease.

Men who have traditional beliefs about masculinity (the ones who feel they have to be tough, brave, self-reliant and never show emotion) are more likely to ignore their symptoms. Try having him see a female practitioner. Studies have shown the are more likely to be honest with a woman.

Sitting with their legs spread apart is actually really good for orthopedic health. Not crossing the legs helps with preventing hip and knee pain, and can prevent to body from coming out of alignment. Don't forget that men can develop osteoporosis too! Encourage the men in your life over the age of 60 to have a bone density test.

Neither of you can afford to be be passive about his heart health. Heart disease is the number one killer of men, being the culprit in one in four deaths. Get moving, eat natural, and break unhealthy habits such a eating junk food and living a sedentary lifestyle now!

Know the ages for important preventative tests. A man at average-risk for colon cancer (meaning there is not family history) should have his first colonoscopy at age 50. If your man has a first degree relative who had colon cancer at age 60 or younger, he should start his screenings at 40, or 10 years before the age that their family member was diagnosed. With prostate cancer the most frequently diagnosed cancer in the US, the American Cancer Society now recommends prostate exams start at age 40 rather then 50. This can be done in his doctor's office with a digital rectal exam (ask me about this later) and a PSA blood test. PSA stands for prostate specific antigen, a protein that goes up if prostate cancer is present.

Harry and Meghan Do Ireland

In early July Meghan and Harry took on their first Royal Tour as a married pair. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex undertook a 2-day official visit to Dublin, Ireland at the request of Her Majesty's Government.

The couple took a short flight from London to Dublin where they were greeted by Dublin city officials.

The Duchess arrived wearing a green Givenchy skirt with coordinating top, wore Paul Andrew 'Pump it Up' heels, and carried a Strathberry Midi Tote in Tan Bridle.

Meghan and Harry were then taken on our tour of a government building by Leo Varadkar who serves Ireland as the Minister of Defense, Taoiseach (aka Prime Minister), and Leader of Fine Gael.

Later that evening, the newlyweds enjoyed a garden party reception which was held at the British Ambassador to Ireland's residence. The Prince looked dapper in a navy suit while Meghan more a black, belted, tea-length dress by Emilia Wickstead. She carried a clutch by Givenchy and wore the Deneuve Bow Pump by Aquazzura.

Harry and Meghan met with Ireland's President Michael Higgins and his wife Sabina Coyne at Aras an Auchtarin, the President's official home and workplace, to start off Day Two of the tour. The Duchess stepped out in a gray creation by Roland Mouret and accessorized with the Fendi Peekaboo Essentials Handbag which retails for $6500. She again wore Paul Andrew 'Pump it Up' heels, but this time in black suede.

Brod and Sioda, the President's Bernese Mountain dogs seemed smitten with Prince Harry and dog-lover Meghan.

Following the visit Meghan changed in to a custom made Givenchy suit for the rest of they day's events. Her belt and bag where also by Givenchy, and reports are that her versatile white t-shirt was Lavender Hill and the shoes were 'Perfect Pump - 100' by designer Sarah Flint.

Next the Duke and Duchess were whisked to Croke Park which is home of the Gaelic Athletic Association where they met with many Irish athletes.

The pair were also able to take in the Croke Park Museum before their next event.

Following their visit to Croke Park, the couple undertook a walk about of Trinity College complete with screaming fans and The Book of Kells.

They next took on a somber visit to the Famine Memorial on the bank of the Liffey River and stopped by the Irish emigration museum, EPIC.

The couple then popped next door, for the last stop of their visit, to Dogpatch Labs, a startup hub where the royals met with young entrepreneurs.

I hope you enjoy these photos from my trip to Dublin in January...

3 Tips for Your Best Vacation Yet

Try my three favorite tips to enhance your vacation this summer!

Eat at a place recommended by a local.

We had read about a place called Pasta e Pesto before we left for Switzerland. We ended up eating there and it was basically Switzerland's form of Noodles and Company. We did much better on our trip to Ireland. We ate in a great, authentic pub recommended by our tour guide, who is native to Ireland.

Bring home a souvenir not purchased in a souvenir shop.

My weird little rock/stone collection started when I went on a cruise with my friend the Bahamas. We flew to Miami first and I found I really cool rock/coral on South Beach. My husband lived in Miami before we knew each other so I thought I'd bring the cool looking thing back home with me for him.

I now have rocks from Lake Como, Italy and I grabbed one out of the Atlantic Ocean while in Ireland. It's a small collection, but I hope to grow it soon!

Try something new.

I usually try some native food while on my trips, but what about trying out a new activity? I am NOT a fan of heights and will sometimes get bouts of vertigo, but I knew I had to do Blarney Castle while in Ireland. We climbed up these narrow, closed in stone stairs to a height of nine stories, and then I was held upside down from those nine stories to kiss the Blarney Stone. I really had to talk myself in to it, and as touristy as it might be, I'm glad I did it. YOLO!

I also climbed up to the top of the Cliffs of Mohr which also has a pretty steep drop.
