2014 Emmy Fashion

Hooray for another awards show! After the hoo-rah of JLo's VMA dress on Sunday, the Emmy's came out on Monday and packed  fashion punch of their own.

Best Dressed
Julianna Margulies in Narcisco Rodriguqez
I love the simplicity and I love the color gradient.
Natalie Dormer in J Mendel
I love how this fits on her. It's sleek and the orange is unexpected. Her hair is perfection.
Lena Headey in Rubin Singer

I thought this was bad ass, yet still feminine. Plus, I love black.

Edie Falco in Escada

I love this sapphire blue color. It's very flattering on her.

Honorable Mention
Amy Poehler in Theia
Favorite Hair and Makeup
Julia Roberts

Worst Dressed
Lena Dunham in Giambattista Vali

Lena is perpetually on my worst dressed list. I just don't get her. Time after time she looks terrible. The skirt reminds me of a tutu, which as a former dancer, I don't hate. Maybe with a different top and on a different girl?
Alexandra Daddario in Reem Acra

I can see nipple and her boobs are lopsided.
Kate Walsh in Stephane Rolland
Banana yellow doesn't look good on anyone. What's with the hair? I'll never get this hairstyle. It looks like she hasn't washed in in over a month.

What were your Emmy Fashion hits and misses this?

Starbucks Green Tea Lemonade Copycat Recipe

PSL has made it's way back to Starbucks this week and fall will be here soon. Now we can enjoy Green Tea Lemonade and have a little taste of summer year round with the homemade recipe!

 Ingredients
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar, plus more to taste
  • 1 green tea bag
  • ½ cup boiling water
  • ¼ cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (from about 2 lemons)
  • ¾ cup cold water
  • Ice cubes

Directions

1. Add 3 tablespoons sugar and green tea bag to the boiling water. Allow the tea to steep about 3 minutes or so before discarding the bag. Stir to make sure the sugar has dissolved.
2. Add the lemon juice and ¾ cup cold water to the sweetened green tea mixture.
3. Stir to combine well. Taste and if it’s too tart, add more sugar to taste.
4. Once you get the right level of sweetness, pour about half of the yield over lots of ice and enjoy.

Makes about 1 ½ cups Green Tea Lemonade before ice.

Weekend Madness

Happy Monday!

Last week my blogging footprint was no where to be found. What a week! I had Monday scheduled off work to get to some appointments and do some things around the house. Early Monday morning we were made aware that Nick's grandmother passed away. She has been declining in health since I've been around (about 7 1/2 years), and she finally went to be with Jesus. I scrambled to get out of possible jury selection in order to attend the service with Nick on Friday. It turned out to be an easy, but I should expect to receive another summons in the mail.

That meant I had to cram 5 days of work into 3 instead of 4. I'm on a committee for a Cruise In benefit that our company puts in every year. The benefit is in less than 2 weeks so I have that additional responsibility on top of my every day work load and projects. It was nuts and this week and next  two weeks of work will be nuts too.

Before Nick and I headed to Mid Michigan early Friday morning, we went to see Kevin James on Thursday night in downtown GR.  You know Kevin James - Zoo Keeper, King of Queen, Hitch, Paul Blart: Mall Cop, etc. He looked and sounded just like he does on screen and he is freakin' hilarious! It was a great night out for me and Nick before the craziness began.

I had to take these pics on the DL. Sorry they aren't great. :/

Nick is such an even and steady guy that we were about to really celebrate his grandmother's life on Friday. He was excited to see some extended family members that he only see every few years. I was beyond excited that Nick's younger brother and his wife flew in from Utah for a few days. My sister-in-law, Meghan, is truly one of my best friends and because she and Nick's brother move all the time for his work we hardly get to see each other. We call each other sister wives because Nick and his brother are more similar than they know.

After the funeral and graveside service we hung out around Frankenmuth and spent more time with Nick's family.

Nick's younger brother, his mom, and Megan.

Me and Nick

Nick oldest and youngest brothers.

We all crashed at Nick's parents house of Friday night and we had a great time hanging out with his brothers and Megan. We always stay up too late and get too crazy. We hung out at the house all day Saturday and Nick taught we how to drive his quad. It's manual and I had no idea how to drive manual!

I think I did pretty well considering. I only got up to 10 mph and it felt so fast! It was a lot of fun.

We headed home on Saturday night and sat in traffic, which ended up adding and extra hour to the drive. Sunday we were all worthless. Nick, Scout, and I all napped throughout the day.

So a new, crazy, and busy week begins! "Celebrating" it here:

SelectSpecs: A New Way to Accessorize + Giveaway

My sense of style is simple, classic, and (dare I say) a little plain. I stick mainly to classic silhouette and solid colors. I much prefer to make a statement with my accessories. I let my personality show through with everything from my necklaces and earrings and to my eye glasses!

Today I am working with SelectSpecs for my latest look. As you may remember, I got my first pair of non-reading glasses back in April. I was lucky enough to score a pair of purple Michael Kors from my eye doctor, but honestly, they had a very, very small selection for me to choose from.

That's where SelectSpecs comes in! SelectSpecs offers the largest collection of eyewear that you'll find online with over 200 designers to choose from. The site also offers sunglasses, contact lenses, and accessories. Finding the perfect glasses is easy. You can shop by budget, brand, style, men's, women's, etc, etc, etc. After you choose your perfect frame it's as simple as entering your Rx. To make it even easier, SelectSpecs allows you to upload an image of your doctor's script without having to decipher any of it! It makes purchasing eyewear online for those with complicated prescriptions a breeze.

Since I already had a new pair of glasses for distance vision, I decided to get a new and much needed pair of reading glasses. I chose my pair from the "economy" priced line. All items in this line range from around $15 to $36. I've always wanted a pair of, what I call, large geek glasses - a pair that really stood out! I was so excited to find a pair by Savannah that fit the bill!

I was even more excited when I received my glasses undamaged. They even came with a SelectSpecs "tough case" and a lense cloth. I've been wearing my new specs constantly at work and when reading in bed at night. They are durable enough that I feel OK about falling asleep in them (wouldn't recommend this though) and the provided case is adequate enough to keep them safe in my purse.

Browse on over to SelectSpecs and find your perfect pair!

The Friday Five + Giveaway

//1// Don't forget to enter the August Giveaway. I can't wait to pick a winner and send some goodies to one of my readers!

//2// Some bloggers are switching gears to Fall. I'm so not ready for that. Summer came late here and it hasn't been that warm. All this week we've seen morning temps in the 50s. Bummer. Although I'm not ready for Fall, I am looking forward to two things - sweatshirts and Biggby Coffee.

Biggby Coffee + Sweatshirts = Comfort

//3// Yesterday I took the afternoon off from work to take Scout to the vet. I also made time for a pedicure and facial. Let's just say #amazing.

//4//

This pretty much sums up my attitude all week. Good thing I took yesterday afternoon and this upcoming Monday off. I need some alone time.

What the What!? Wednesday

Hump Day! The end is near! Thanks for joining me for What the What?! Wednesday. Today is the day I post things that I find funny, amazing, weird, odd and anything else that makes you say what the what?!

Ummm.....

The Arizona Daily Star reports that Persis Draper, 92, said she was driving alone in Oro Vally, Ariz. when she hit a 43-year-old woman who was jogging through a crosswalk. Instead of pulling over, Draper drove to a nearby grocery store to use the restroom. "I was going to stop, but then the diarrhea came and I didn’t stop,” Draper told deputies.

True story. I sh*t you not (pun intended). She ended up with 18 months probation.

A newly-hired Oklahoma high school teacher was arrested on her first day on the job after allegedly appearing at school drunk and with no pants or shoes. Lorie Ann Hill, 49, was arrested last week on suspicion of public intoxication. Police said an administrator walked in to a classroom to find Hill intoxicated and partially dressed, though no students were present.
What not to do on your first day of a new job. Talk about Bad Teacher!
Hope you enjoyed this week's installment of What the What?! Wednesday!

Travel Tuesday: Nashville Recap Part III

Today's the last Nashville recap. It's been super fun reliving the trip for the past month on the blog. Hope you all enjoy the last of it. Don't forget to enter the August Giveaway!

My sister and I had a jammed packed day up until the very last day. On our last full day in Nashville we visited The Hermitage (home of President Andrew Jackson) and The Ryman Auditorium (the original home of the Grand Ole Opry).

The grounds of The Hermitage were so vast, lush, green, and peaceful.

It was so sunny and so hot on the day we went!

We got to tour inside the house and all around the ground. We took our time enjoying the scenery and enjoying the weather.

The final resting place of President Jackson and his wife Rachel.

The tomb of Andrew Jackson.

Our tour guide, Bob, was the coolest!

Nashville was such amazing city. Good food, good music, and great people. The best part of the trip was spending time with my sister!

How to Make a Perfect Green Smoothie + Giveaway

Get your week started with a power shake! Follow the steps to make the perfect green smoothie.

1. Follow the 60/40 formula.
60% fruits to 40% leafy greens.
source
2. Blend in stages to avoid leafy chunks.
Blend up your leafy greens and liquid-base first. Then add your remaining fruits and blend again.

3. Ditch the ice and freeze some fruits.

Freeze your favorite fruits like ripe bananas (peel first), grapes, pineapple or berries. You can also freeze your leafy greens in a freezer-safe bag. Just make sure to add your frozen greens straight to the blender (don’t defrost these fragile lil’ guys).

4. Use raw natural sweeteners.

Add naturally sweet fruits to any smoothie that tastes bitter or a bit too “green.” By sticking with naturally sweet fruits like bananas, mango, apples, pears or pitted dates, we avoid artificial sweeteners and processed sugars.

5. Make smoothies ahead for the perfect fast food.

You can blend your green smoothie the night before and store it in your fridge (up to 2 days). Use an airtight lid to limit oxidation and keep it as fresh as possible. When ready to drink, give it a good shake before you open.
