What's Up Wednesday

Happy Hump Day! Stopping in to give you a quick update on what I've been up to recently.

The 2019 US Figure Skating Championships took place in Detroit over the last two weeks. I'm kind of bummed I didn't think to get tickets. 'The D' is about 2.5 hours from where I live and it would have been a fun event to see live! I've followed figure skating my entire life, and got in to ice dancing after the last Olympics. The US has some amazing ice dance teams! Any other fans out there?

Nick and I have been keeping busy by going to the shooting range and going to the movies. Only indoor activities for this Michigan couple.

Winter finally showed up in Michigan. We were having really mild temperatures with no snow until last week. Now it's been in the negatives in the mornings, the teens during the day, and we have plenty of snow! The governor declared a State of Emergency yesterday, and today is supposed to be the coldest day (with wind chills) that the state has had in 20 years.

Being inside has meant watching lots of TV (instead of reading). I recently finished up some series I had been working on. I finished Orphan Black, Vanity Fair, and Victoria (season 1). Right now I'm working my way through the last season of Downton Abbey.

I got a new(ish) computer. I say newish because it's refurbished. I don't know what all that means, but I know it runs a lot faster to than my old laptop. I leave the tech speak to Nick.

I've gotten some great photos of Scout lately. Enjoy!

What have you been up to?

5 Drinks for Better Health

//1// Green Tea

Green tea contains L-theanine an amino acid that can help increase the frequency of alpha waves to the brain which are linked to feelings of relaxation. The catechins in green tea may inhibit the growth of bacteria and some viruses. This can lower the risk of infections that cause cavities and bad breath thus improving overall dental health.

//2//  Black Coffee

Drinking coffee is linked with a lower risk of Alzheimer's, heart disease, and some cancers. It has potent antioxidants thought to help prevent cell damage. It also contain Vitamins B2, B3, B5, potassium, and magnesium.

//3// Tart Cherry Juice

Research has suggested that drinking tart cherry juice in the morning and before you go to bed can help you sleep longer and more soundly. Cherries are rich in melatonin, the hormone that tells your body when it's time to sleep.

//4// Coconut Water

Coconut water helps re-hydrate your body.It has electrolytes like sodium, phosphorus, calcium, and potassium. The naturally occurring sugar in coconut water helps replenish glycogen refueling tired muscles.

//5// Low Fat Milk

One cup delivers 100 units of Vitamin D. A Vitamin D deficiency can cause frequent illness, fatigue and tiredness, bone and back pain, depression, bone loss, hair loss, depression, and muscle pain. Vitamin D may help with weight loss and decrease the risk of Type II diabetes.

Sh*t My Sister Says

My younger sister, Courtney, is not only one of my best friends and best people I know, but she's also one of the funniest. I really think she's been funny and witty her entire life. I remember recording her with the family video camera when she was ten. I asked her name, age, and sex. And to sex she replied, "yes, please!" Now that we live in different states and do most of our communicating via text message I've been able to catch such gems so they can live in infamy.
