How to Have the Perfect Snowy Getaway

PICK YOUR DESTINATION

There are many popular, picturesque places around the United States to visit including Jackson Hole, Lake Tahoe, Aspen, and Park City. However, there are littler known gems such as The Berkshires in the Western Massachusetts, Lake Placid, New York, Mount Hood, Oregon, and Killington, Vermont. Choose the destination based on what's important to you such as activities offered, location, and budget.

FIGURE OUT LODGING

Most snowy destination offer an array of lodging options from hotels to chalets to rustic cabins to luxury mountain resorts. Again, it all depends on what your looking to get out of your vacation. A cabin in the woods can be the perfect, relaxing getaway whereas a mountain resort may offer spa services, activities from the kids, and pampering for pets.

KNOW WHAT TO PACK

Take it from a Michigander, when heading to a cold weather destination layering is key! Make sure to take your parka, waterproof boots, and essentials such as a hat, gloves, and sweaters. My favorite winter wear includes Columbia Omni Heat Jackets and Sorel waterproof boots.

HIT THE SLOPES

Downhill skiing, snowboarding, and cross country skiing are great ways to hit the slopes, but don't forget snow tubing, sledding, and gondola rides if you aren't adept at snow sports.

CHECK OUT THE TOWN

Pursue the main street of the closest town you are staying too. Downtown areas often offer unique shops, quaint and quiet coffee shops, and one-of-a-kind dining options.

FIND INDOOR ACTIVITIES

If you're not a cold weather person, there is plenty to do while your cold weather family enjoys the outdoors. Have a spa day, bust out the board games, read, enjoy hot beverages all day long or take advantage of the resort's indoor pool and hot tub.

RETIRE BY THE FIRE

Whatever you do during the day, choose to end the day in front of a crackling fireplace. It's the prefect way to relax and warm up. Romantic too!

  3. I am SUCH a cold-weather person, so when I saw your post on IG, I knew I had to read this! We loved living so close to Lake Placid when we were at Fort Drum because there was nothing better than a wintry escape there! I have my eye on a trip to Colorado next year!
