My Favorite Pandora Station (Plus My 5 Favorite Songs)

I am totally NOT in to current music, Top 40, whatever you want to call it. I've been enjoying using Pandora to listen to some of my favorite music - early 2000s country, 90s pop, 1980s ballads, even classic Broadway show tunes.

But my favorite Pandora station is actually the 1950s Rock 'n' Roll Radio. This station offers the best of the oldies that came before me in the 1950s and 1960s, when my parents were even young children! It's also the only music my husband and I can agree on.

It was so, so hard narrowing it down to just five songs, but here goes...

//1// Who Put the Bomp - Barry Mann - 1961

//2// In The Still of The Night - Fred Parris and the Satins - 1956

//3// Stand by Me - Ben E. King - 1961

Fun fact about this song: It was a top contender for our wedding song, but ultimately ended up in second place. We went with the 1972 hit Fools Rush in by Mr. Elvis Presley.

//4// Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow - The Shirilles - 1960

//5// My Girl - The Temptations - 1965

Hands down my favorite song EVER.

What's Up Wednesday?! 6.27.18

Hey all! I've been in and out of blog land lately so I figured I'd update you on some fun haps!

My sister flew out to visit this past weekend and we started off with a bang. We went to the fair and saw a really, really horrible rodeo. We had fund playing carnival games and eating fair food tho!

 We had planned to go to the beach and go swimming in a friend's pool, but the weather wasn't overly warm or nice. We headed to the Downtown Market instead and shopped local vendors and enjoyed a delicious lunch!

We saw the movies Adrift and Tag (both of which I recommend), got pedicures, played some Guess Who?, and celebrated Nick's THIRTY FIFTH birthday with a strawberry rhubarb pie on Sunday!

Whenever my sister visit she always pranks me. It started years ago when we pranked my dad by stealing all the underwear out of his suit case. My dad retaliated by writing on me with a Sharpie. This year my sister she put Prince William in my bed. I was pretty surprised, but can't say I hated it. Who wouldn't share their bed with a prince?

HAPPY HUMP DAY!

How to Properly Wash Your Unmentionables

With the Victoria's Secret Semi Annual Sale, I treated myself to some much needed new bras. Even with the sale, Victoria's Secret bras can be a it pricey. I've never paid attention to how I should be caring for my bras. I've always just thrown them in the wash with all my other clothing. Today you're about to learn...

Bras can be washed in the washing machine!

Hook the back of your bras.
Place inside a lingerie bag with similar colors.
Wash on the delicate cycle in cool water with a gentle detergent.
When you take your molded cup bras out of the washing machine, reshape the cups with your hands.
Do not wring or stretch your bras.
Always hang your bras to dry.

However, the preferable way to wash delicates is by hand!

Fill a clean sink with lukewarm water.
Add an alcohol-free hand washing detergent.
Soak your bras for up to 1 hour.
Rub material together to remove dirt.
Place wet garment on a towel.
Lay another towel over the top and press to remove excess water.
Remember: don't wring out your bras!
Reshape molded cups with your hands.
Hang to dry.

You can wait and wash bras every 2-3 wears (depending on personal hygiene) to prolong their life. Just make sure to NEVER put your bras in the dryer. The heat will break down the spandex and elastic.You can also wash was your panties using the instructions above; however, they should be washed after one wear!

Easy Hairstyles for Hot Temps

// THE BUBBLE PONYTAIL //

The bubble ponytail is the perfect way to update a classic for summer. All you need for this look is clear hair elastics.

Start by securing your hair in a ponytail with an elastic. Tug on the top section to created more volume and a relaxed look. Skin this step if you want a slicked back, polished look. Take a small section of hair from the ponytail and loosely wrap it around the clear elastic until you get to the end of your hair. Find the elastic under the hair where it isn't visible and pull the end of the wrapped strand of hair through that elastic so it stays in place. Tease a one to one and half inch section of the ponytail started at the top of the ponytail. Separate the teased hair from the other portion of the ponytail with another hair elastic. Repeat until you get to the end of the ponytail. Try to create the bubbles to be the same size both vertically and horizontally. When finished, tug at the bubbles to loosen them up and make the look more deconstructed.

// THE MESSY TOP KNOT //

The top knot is my favorite hairstyle at any time of year, but especially in the summer since it's keeps my hair off of my neck and out of my face! A messy top not is super simple for summer. You'll need your favorite texturizing product (I love sugar sprays), one hair elastic, bobby pins, and curling iron if you want/need to create a fuller look.

Start by lightly spritzing your hair with a texturizing product. Next, if you're curling, this is when you want to do it. Then pull your hair into a loose high ponytail and secure it with a hair elastic. Next, separate the ponytail in to two sections. Start with one section and light twist it. Hold the twisted section up vertically. Grab the hair by one strand and gently push the rest of the twisted section down towards the base of the ponytail. Then wrap this section of hair around the base of the ponytail securing it with bobby pins. Repeat on the second section, smooth any fly-aways with the curling iron, and presto... the prefect messy top knot!

// THE TWISTED BANG //

Keeping long sweeping bangs or short bangs can be accomplished by twisting them back. Having your bangs back from your face will help to keep your forehead shine free and allow the breeze to hit your face. All you need is one bobby pin!

Begin by taking a one inch section of hair near your part and at the front of the hairline. Start to twist away from your face. Continue to grab more hair from the hairline and continue to twist. Continue until your twisted piece is the desired length. Secure the twist with a bobby pin.

HAPPY SUMMER!

My Five Favorite Things from The Royal Wedding

I'm still reliving every amazing moment of the fairytale that was Meghan and Harry's wedding. There were so many special things about the day. Today I'm sharing five of my favorite moments from the wedding.

// 1 // Brian Mulroney

The little page boy's excited expression before coming down the aisle was EVERYTHING. Brian's father, Ben (who is married to Meghan's best friend Jessica), explained his son's expression on a Canadian morning show saying, "I asked him, and he said he'd never heard a trumpet before. I think when he walked in, he saw all the people there, and the flowers, none of that was there during the rehearsal."

// 2 // Meghan's Veil

Everyone has been discussing the classic, simple elements of the Duchess' Givenchy dress, but in my opinion, they're all missing the reason her gown was classic and simple. It was supposed to be all about the veil!

Meghan's veil was made of silk tulle and measured 16 feet long! Created by Clare Waight Keller of Givenchy, the new Royal used her wedding veil to express her gratitude for the opportunity to support the work of the Commonwealth. This was done by embroidering the flora from each of the 53 Commonwealths in to the veil. In an interview, designer Waight Keller said, "It also meant every single one of those countries also journeyed up the aisle with her. It was a really poetic moment. She absolutely loved it."

The veil took longer to complete than the dress. 500 hours were spent creating each flower with silk threads and organza on a flat surface before sewing it onto the silk tulle of the veil. It was so delicate that the workers had to wash their hands every 30 minutes to keep the silk and threads clean.

It's reported that a mock veil of the exact same dimensions was used at the rehearsal at St. George's Chapel in order for the page boys and bridesmaids to get the timing and distance perfect.

// 3// The Mom Squad

Meghan decided against choosing between her very best friends and did not have a Maid of Honor. Instead, she was able to honor her friends by choosing their children to be a part of the bridal party. However, The Duchess of Sussex did give her friends the special job of delivering their children to the front of the church.

Each mother had her own car, and the four walked their children up the steps of St. George's Chapel and in to the church. Meghan's mom squad includes Jessica Mulroney, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, Benita Litt, and Alice can Cutsem.

// 4// Prince Charles

Prince Charles really won me over. First, I felt him escorting Meghan part of the way to Harry was so sweet, as sort of a father figure. What a great way to welcome her to the family! He seemed honored to have the duty.

Second, Charles was very attentive to not only his wife, The Duchess of Cornwall, but also to Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland. He escorted BOTH women out of the chapel in the recessional.

He melted my heart!

// 5 // Bishop Michael Curry

The presiding bishop of the American Episcopal church delivered a 14-minute sermon at the Royal Wedding.

The sermon was received with mix reviews, but I found it passionate, and a beautiful of message of the love of Jesus Christ.

"Jesus did not get an honorary doctorate for dying. He wasn't getting anything out of it. He gave up his life, he scarified his life for the good of others, for the well-being of the world, for us. That's what love is." - Bishop Michael Curry
