In 1959, a Michigan meat-packing company, Hygrade Food Products, was chosen to be the exclusive hot dog supplier to the Detroit Tigers Stadium. The company launched a contest to decide on the best brand name for these hot dogs, and the winner was chosen as "Ball Park Franks." Today, these delicious dogs are still served up at Tigers games and can be found in your favorite grocery
Gerber Products Company has been producing baby food and baby products since 1927, when it was founded in Fremont, Michigan by Daniel Frank Gerber. Today, the company is still located in Fremont. Frank's wife began the business making hand-strained food for their seven-month-old daughter, and Frank soon saw a business opportunity. Within six months of creating a small product line, Gerber's baby foods were being sold nationwide. Today, Gerber offers more than 90 products worldwide and controls 83 percent of the U.S. baby food market.
Whirlpool is the global producer of home appliances that was founded and currenly has headquarters in St. Joseph, Michigan on the gorgeous west coast of Michigan. Need something from Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air or another great household appliance manufacturer? Well, those and more happen to fall under the umbrella of the Whirlpool company.
These makers of industrial strength work clothes are well known for their warm coats and bib overalls found on construction sites all over the world over. Carhartt also overs a women's apparel collection, streetwear line, and donated thousands of pieces to rescue workers after 9/11. The company was founded 125 years ago in Dearborn, MI where its headquarters remain and where the descendents of its founder Hamilton Carhartt still own and run the company as a private venture.
