Harry's Gettin' Married!

It's the day all Royal Watchers have been waiting for. For years we've been anxiously waiting for the Spare to get serious, meet a nice girl, and settle down. On Monday, November 27, 2017 Clarence House announced the engagement of His Royal Highness Prince Harry of Wales to Ms. Megan Markle.

Although an engagement felt imminent after Meghan left her role on the hit show Suits, and packed up and moved to the UK in November (it was also rumored she moved in with Harry, which we now know is true), it was a surprise of how soon it came - just a year and half in to her and the Prince's courtship.

Shortly after Clarence House released the news of their engagement, The Price and his fiancé held a photo call for the press at The Sunken Gardens at Kensington Palace in London. The short photo call gave the press their first official photos of Harry and Meghan, and gave the first glimpse of Meghan's engagement ring. The ring is a series of three diamonds set on a yellow gold band. The center diamond was sourced from Botswana and the two side diamonds are from the late Princess Diana's jewelry collection. Harry designed the ring himself, and chose the yellow gold band because it is Meghan's 'favorite.'

For their first official photos as a engaged couple, Prince Harry wore a navy suit and Meghan was outfitted in a white knit coat from the Canadian brand LINE the label over the Fitted Bowtie Detail Dress from P.A.R.O.S.H, opal earrings from Canadian jeweler Maison Birk, and Aquazzura Matilde Crisscross Suede Pumps available at Neiman Marcus. Her entire outfit retails for around $1,556 (price of earrings and engagement ring unknown).

The engaged couple sat down with BBC journalist Mishal Husain shortly after the photo call for their official interview.

The interview revealed that Harry and Meghan met for the first time in July 2016 in London after being set up by a mutual friend. The two met for drinks one night, and immediately went out the following day, sighting that they had bonded over each others' philanthropic works. The next foray for the pair was spending 5 days together camping in Botswana. Meghan revealed that since they met in July 2016 they had not spent more than 2 weeks apart, with Harry flying to Toronto to visit Meghan or Meghan flying to London to visit Harry.

The couple were able to keep their relationship private and secret for 5 to 6 months before the press and public caught wind of it. The couple were first spotted out together in London in October 2016, and the Prince confirmed their relationship just one year prior to their engagement announcement in November 2016.

The couple were then spotted at a friend's wedding in Jamaica, and Meghan accompanied Harry to Pippa Middleton's wedding reception. She also supported her then-boyfriend at a polo match in March.

The interview also revealed that that Harry got down on one knee and asked Meghan to marry him at the couple's home at Nottingham Cottage during a cozy night in. Nottingham Cottage will remain their residence after they are married. Meghan described the proposal as 'an amazing surprise' and said it was 'very sweet, very  natural, and very romantic.'

Prior to their engagement, Meghan had met The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Princess Charlotte and Prince George, The Duke and Duchess or Cornwall, and the Queen several times, as well as having met the Spencer family. Harry had met Meghan's mother and asked her permission to propose to her daughter.

The interview wouldn't be complete without discussing Harry's mother, Princess Diana, who died in a tragic car accident in 1997 when Harry was just 12 years old. When Harry was asked if he felt Diana would have liked Meghan, he replied "Oh they'd be thick as thieves, without question, I think she would be over the moon, jumping up and down, you know so excited for me, but then, as I said, would have probably been best friends - best friends with Meghan."

Reports claim that the newly engaged couple met with the Queen following their official interview.

Kensington Palace released more details about the upcoming royal wedding just one day after the engagement announcement. Harry and Meghan will be getting married at St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle located in Berkshire, England in May 2018. The Chapel has the capacity for 800 people. The report also announced that Meghan will be baptized and confirmed into the church of England prior to the wedding and she plans to become a UK citizen after her marriage to the Prince.

The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall had their televised religious ceremony at St. George's Chapel in 2005. Other notable Royals married there include Prince Edward to the now-Countess of Wessex Sophie (nee Rhys-Jones) and Harry's cousin and Princess Anne's son Peter Phillips to Autumn Kelly in 2008.

We have five to six months to speculate all thing Royal Wedding. Will Meghan choose a British or American designer for her wedding dress, or will she go with a Canadian designer (in a nod to her time living there and also in a nod to the Commonwealth)?

Will Prince George be a page boy and Charlotte a flower girl, or will they go with a more Americanized wedding with bridesmaids and groomsmen?

Wills is a guarantee for Harry's best man, but we'll have to wait and see who Meghan chooses as her maid/matron of honor, and also to see if her father will walk her down the aisle (as the soon-to-be-Royal seems closer to her mom).

Meghan will also be tasked with choosing which charities she will become patron of. And there's the all important question of Harry and Meghan's titles as a married couple. Meghan will not become Princess Meghan (as Kate is not Princess Catherine).  Meghan, as a commoner, would be known as Her Royal Highness Princess Harry of Wales. She will most likely go with, and be known by, her duchess title, like The Duchess of Cambridge. Rumors are swirling that she will be known as Her Royal Highness Meghan Duchess of Sussex, or simply The Duchess of Sussex.
