Books + Bloggers + Weekend Things

It's Monday! Get psyched!

My weekend was really simple. It included having a yard sale, laundry, and an al fresco lunch at On the Border.

We switched over to Amazon Fire TV from DirecTV this weekend so we worked on that, and capped off the weekend watching the US Open final. STAN THE MAN!

Now on to the fun stuff...

I'm obsessed with books, therefore I always join CG Swaps Books and Bloggers Swap.

Here's the deal. You're paired up with another bloggers and you exchange one book from your partner's wishlist, one book you love and recommend they read, and one book of your choice. I was paired with Kim from Kim Bianco Design Studio. It was great to meet her and find out what we have in common! She really hooked me up with some great books. I can't wait to dive in!

 A BOOK FROM MY LIST:
One True Loves
by: Taylor Jenkins Reed

In her twenties, Emma Blair marries her high school sweetheart, Jesse. They build a life for themselves, far away from the expectations of their parents and the people of their hometown in Massachusetts. They travel the world together, living life to the fullest and seizing every opportunity for adventure.
On their first wedding anniversary, Jesse is on a helicopter over the Pacific when it goes missing. Just like that, Jesse is gone forever.
Emma quits her job and moves home in an effort to put her life back together. Years later, now in her thirties, Emma runs into an old friend, Sam, and finds herself falling in love again. When Emma and Sam get engaged, it feels like Emma’s second chance at happiness.
That is, until Jesse is found. He’s alive, and he’s been trying all these years to come home to her. With a husband and a fiancé, Emma has to now figure out who she is and what she wants, while trying to protect the ones she loves.
Who is her one true love? What does it mean to love truly?
Emma knows she has to listen to her heart. She’s just not sure what it’s saying.

A BOOK KIM LOVES AND WANTS ME TO READ (!):
The Nightingale
by: Kristin Hannah

Despite their differences, sisters Viann and Isabelle have always been close. Younger, bolder Isabelle lives in Paris while Viann is content with life in the French countryside with her husband Antoine and their daughter. But when the Second World War strikes, Antoine is sent off to fight and Viann finds herself isolated so Isabelle is sent by their father to help her.
As the war progresses, the sisters' relationship and strength is tested. With life changing in unbelievably horrific ways, Viann and Isabelle will find themselves facing frightening situations and responding in ways they never thought possible as bravery and resistance take different forms in each of their actions.

A BOOK OF KIM'S CHOICE:
Cancel the Wedding
by: Carolyn T. Dingman

On the surface, Olivia has it all: a high-powered career, a loving family, and a handsome fiancé. She even seems to be coming to terms with her mother Jane’s premature death from cancer. But when Jane’s final wish is revealed, Olivia and her elder sister Georgia are mystified. Their mother rarely spoke of her rural Southern hometown, and never went back to visit—so why does she want them to return to Huntley, Georgia, to scatter her ashes?
Jane’s request offers Olivia a temporary escape from the reality she’s long been denying: she hates her “dream” job, and she’s not really sure she wants to marry her groom-to-be. With her 14-year-old niece, Logan, riding shotgun, she heads South on a summer road trip looking for answers about her mother.
As Olivia gets to know the town’s inhabitants, she begins to peel back the secrets of her mother’s early life—truths that force her to finally question her own future. But when Olivia is confronted with a tragedy and finds an opportunity to right a terrible wrong, will it give her the courage to accept her mother’s past—and say yes to her own desire to start over?

  2. We gave up Direct TV in February and got the Amazon Fire Stick. I'm still not in love with it yet but we mainly just use it for Hulu and Netflix. I'm not sure we are using it to it's potential. However, when I go to watch a lot of the channels on it, it asks me for my cable provider info?? Do you like it? - Crystal

    1. Yeah, I am liking it so far. We pay for PlayStation Vue and that's how we get all our cable channels.
