New Year's Resolution: Lemon Essential Oil

Your probably thinking, "What does lemon essential oil have to do with a New Year's resolution?". Here's the thing. I don't drink water. Like ever. I really need to, so one of my resolutions is to drink more! I'm in love with my Young Living Essential Oils and use them for the health benefits they offer. So why not use my lemon eo in my new year's quest for an added bonus!

So why lemon essential oil and not real lemons? Here are my top three reasons:

//1// I don't like citrus. The juice of a lemon is taken from the pulp, while Young Living’s Lemon essential oil is distilled from the rind. The presence of citric acid in the juice makes it sour, and those with delicate stomachs may have bad reactions to the citric acid. When using the rind, you avoid the sour taste, as it does not contain citric acid. This also makes the lemon essential oil easier to ingest.

//2// Essential oils stimulate the body internally. They help activate the production of antibodies, endorphins, enzymes, hormones and neurotransmitters. They help cells increase the absorption of oxygen and Adenosine triphosphate (ATP). In this way, they work to naturally get the body back in balance and back to health. Young Living’s Lemon essential oil has an Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) of 660 μTE/100g. Can lemon juice do this?

//3// Health Benefits of Lemon Water

Sore throat: Drinking warm lemon water may provide relief from a sore throat or pharyngitis.

Kidney stones: One of the major health benefits of lemon water include its ability to treat and prevent kidney stones. Normally, kidney stones pass out of the body without much discomfort, but sometimes they can block the urine flow and cause intense pain. Drinking lemon water helps in re-hydrating the body and keeping the urine diluted. This in turn reduces any risk of kidney stone formation. However, in case of severe pain and discomfort from a possible kidney stone, you should speak with a doctor or your medical professional.

Healthy liver: Drinking lemon water may also help in activating digestive enzymes present in the liver. It can also help in regulating oxygenation of the blood.

Aids in digestion: The lemon juice present in lemon water promotes the production of hydrochloric acid and bile secretion, which is required for digestion. It also reduces the risk of acidity and gout. People who commonly suffer from digestive issues like abdominal cramps, bloating, burning sensations and excess gas should use lemon water regularly. It can also prevent diarrhea and similar issues. Women can use lemon juice extracted from 3 to 4 lemons in order to get rid of menstrual pain. To reap the most health benefits of lemon juice, you should consume it after mixing it with warm water.

Cures constipation: Lemon water is useful for curing constipation, so drink warm lemon water every morning and get relief from constipation for the rest of the day.

Boosts immune system: Lemon water is a good source of citrus bioflavonoid, vitamin C, and phytonutrients, which help in improving the strength of the immune system. It also helps increase energy levels in the body due to the presence of essential vitamins and minerals.

Weight loss: Drinking lukewarm lemon water with honey every morning can help people lose extra weight more easily.

Rheumatism: Drinking lemon water before meals and at bed time may also provide relief from rheumatism.

Scurvy: Consumption of lemon water helps in curing scurvy or a general deficiency of vitamin C.

Canker sores: Rinsing your mouth with lukewarm lemon water can help in providing relief from painful canker sores or mouth ulcers.

Gum disorder: Drinking lemon water may also relieve the pain associated with swollen gums. Add a pinch of salt to the lemon water for best results and make sure the lemon juice is well-diluted in water.

Anti-carcinogenic properties: Drinking lemon water may also be beneficial in preventing cancer. Research studies suggest that lemon, with its anti-tumor properties, may help in reducing cancer risk.

Lowers stress and blood pressure: Another great benefit of lemon water is its ability to lower blood pressure, while providing relief from stress, depression and anxiety. Drinking lemon water will also convey a sense of relaxation.

Balances pH: By drinking one glass of lemon water, you will help to alkalize the whole body and balance the pH level of the body. There are many diseases and conditions linked to the acidic body state. For optimal health, it is very important for the body to maintain the alkaline state that is achieved by eating the alkaline foods. Lemon water can help bring the balance back to the alkaline side of things.

Detoxification: Lemon water helps in cleansing your entire body by reducing the toxins in the blood. Nutrients in lemons promote the removal of waste materials as well as toxins since it acts as the natural diuretic, which stimulates an increase in urination.

Skin care: An intake of lemon water on a daily basis can help to rejuvenate the skin. Lemons are loaded with antioxidants and the well-known anti-aging properties of lemons and other antioxidant-rich foods have become increasingly popular in recent years.
