My Five Favorite Things from The Royal Wedding

I'm still reliving every amazing moment of the fairytale that was Meghan and Harry's wedding. There were so many special things about the day. Today I'm sharing five of my favorite moments from the wedding.

// 1 // Brian Mulroney

The little page boy's excited expression before coming down the aisle was EVERYTHING. Brian's father, Ben (who is married to Meghan's best friend Jessica), explained his son's expression on a Canadian morning show saying, "I asked him, and he said he'd never heard a trumpet before. I think when he walked in, he saw all the people there, and the flowers, none of that was there during the rehearsal."

// 2 // Meghan's Veil

Everyone has been discussing the classic, simple elements of the Duchess' Givenchy dress, but in my opinion, they're all missing the reason her gown was classic and simple. It was supposed to be all about the veil!

Meghan's veil was made of silk tulle and measured 16 feet long! Created by Clare Waight Keller of Givenchy, the new Royal used her wedding veil to express her gratitude for the opportunity to support the work of the Commonwealth. This was done by embroidering the flora from each of the 53 Commonwealths in to the veil. In an interview, designer Waight Keller said, "It also meant every single one of those countries also journeyed up the aisle with her. It was a really poetic moment. She absolutely loved it."

The veil took longer to complete than the dress. 500 hours were spent creating each flower with silk threads and organza on a flat surface before sewing it onto the silk tulle of the veil. It was so delicate that the workers had to wash their hands every 30 minutes to keep the silk and threads clean.

It's reported that a mock veil of the exact same dimensions was used at the rehearsal at St. George's Chapel in order for the page boys and bridesmaids to get the timing and distance perfect.

// 3// The Mom Squad

Meghan decided against choosing between her very best friends and did not have a Maid of Honor. Instead, she was able to honor her friends by choosing their children to be a part of the bridal party. However, The Duchess of Sussex did give her friends the special job of delivering their children to the front of the church.

Each mother had her own car, and the four walked their children up the steps of St. George's Chapel and in to the church. Meghan's mom squad includes Jessica Mulroney, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, Benita Litt, and Alice can Cutsem.

// 4// Prince Charles

Prince Charles really won me over. First, I felt him escorting Meghan part of the way to Harry was so sweet, as sort of a father figure. What a great way to welcome her to the family! He seemed honored to have the duty.

Second, Charles was very attentive to not only his wife, The Duchess of Cornwall, but also to Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland. He escorted BOTH women out of the chapel in the recessional.

He melted my heart!

// 5 // Bishop Michael Curry

The presiding bishop of the American Episcopal church delivered a 14-minute sermon at the Royal Wedding.

The sermon was received with mix reviews, but I found it passionate, and a beautiful of message of the love of Jesus Christ.

"Jesus did not get an honorary doctorate for dying. He wasn't getting anything out of it. He gave up his life, he scarified his life for the good of others, for the well-being of the world, for us. That's what love is." - Bishop Michael Curry

  2. I am still reliving it too, Ashley! You're not alone ;) It's still all I want to talk about, to the chagrin of everyone around me. Meghan's veil is enough to make me wish I had worn one in my wedding.... wahhh. So beautiful. And yes - Bishop Michael Curry's sermon was everything! It really made the ceremony.
